Instagram Stories, what to post?
I get this question all the time – “what should I post there, I don’t always use Stories.”
Here are a few examples:
- Behind-the-scenes videos
- Snippets from your life
- Highlights of other accounts you admire
- Do you have a product to sell? Show someone using your product or a positive review
- Snippet from a recent blog post
- Video introducing you
- Funny memes
- Quotes of the Day
- Questions about the weather
- A detail about your day
- And so much more…
The list is endless. But, if you’re like me, you like the design of your Stories to be a little bit, shall we say more than what you can get with just plain old Instagram. The tools there are fairly limited.
Here’s one of my secrets…
I rarely use just Instagram to design my Stories.
Most of the time, I use one of my third-party apps. I’m not formally endorsing any of these and I’m not an affiliate, I just love all of them:
- Canva (10% of the time)
- Adobe Spark Post (10% of the time)
- Over (80% of the time)
The apps each have templates and other tools to help you create graphics that will look like a designer created them.
Shh, another secret…
I love to use templates to tell my readers a little bit about myself. The bonus is that my readers can use the exact same templates to tell me a little about them. Win/win!

How to use the Templates
The templates are below and I’ll continue to add new ones as I create them.
No need to sign up for anything. Just save the file(s) to your desktop or mobile device, post them on your Stories and customize using the Instagram draw and text tools.
Then watch your engagement get a boost.

Your site is so helpful! Thank you for sharing your knowledge! I, too, started my account to drive traffic to my blog and quickly saw that wasn’t going to happen! But I also enjoy the interaction and I’ve learned so much! I have not used stories much yet because it’s a little intimidating so thanks again for the tips!
