10 Easy Ways to Add Fall to Your Home

Last updated Dec 11, 2018 | Published on Sep 15, 2018 | Decorating, Holidays, Styling, Thanksgiving, Tutorial

For years I never changed my decor with the seasons. I didn’t want to be extreme and spend lots of money on something I’d be changing in a few weeks or months.

But, now that I’ve done it a few times, I’ve found it’s neither expensive nor very difficult. And changing just a few things here and there keeps things seasonal AND interesting. I do get bored looking at the same thing all the time.

So for those of you looking for away to cut through all the design advice out there (it can be confusing!), give yourself a place to start. Here are a some quick & easy ways to add Fall to your home decorating!

1. Switch out your Pillows

Throw pillows are a super simple way to change the look of a space. Here, I just added a couple of pillows with warmer colors to my living room couch. My favorite sources for throw pillows? Here you go:

*I have not used these particular vendors but I like their products and they have good reviews.

2. Freshen up Your Front Door

Freshen up your front door – add mums to either side of it. You can pick up a fairly large plant in a bucket at your local Home Depot, Lowes or landscaping store for $25 – $30 each. They’ll bloom throughout the Fall.

3. Sprinkle Pumpkins Throughout

Add a real or decorative pumpkin here and there. Here are a few sources for the decorative ones:

*I have not used these particular shops personally but I loved their products and reviews were good.

4. Fill a Bowl with Apples

Easy peasy. Find a bowl, add apples. You have an instant source of Fall and bright color. This whimsical stand was from Anthropologie. The apples can be faux or real. These faux apples were from Amazon.

5. Spice up the House

Add Autumn scents to your house. There are a few ways you can do it:

  • Bake a pie (my favorite is Apple!)
  • Use essential oils (mine are from Amazon and include scents like applie pie and brown sugar. Yum!)
  • Light a candle

6. Hang a Fall Wreath

Choose a wall or your front door. I actually prefer the understated wreaths. These one is from Magnolia Market. Love! I’ve also seen some sweet wreaths at my local Pier1 and Home Goods.

7. Hang a Fall Dishtowel on your Stove Handle

I found these towels at my local Home Goods. Another great source for cute, different towels is Kitch Studios. I got a ‘Stupid Dishes’ towel there and it always makes me smile.

8. Switch out a Portrait

I have this one spot at the top of my bakers rack where I switch out the picture to something seasonal. I now have something special for Fall, Christmas and everything else. The pumpkin sign I found in my local Home Goods. Another source for awesome signs that I have not used yet but have heard great things about: Harper Grayce.

9. Add Branches to a Vase

The vase is from Pottery Barn, but the Eucalyptus branches are live, from Trader’s Joe’s, they were $2.99. And they smell like a little piece of Fall every time I pass by my dining room table.

10. Change out or add a Table Runner

There are lots of choices out there, you’ll see a great selection at your local Pier1 or Home Goods. This one I purchased from Southern Nest Designs – I highly recommend the shop!

Summary

There’s no need to do all 10, or you can do more! That’s the great thing about home decor – it’s completely up to you how much you choose to do. But, if you’re looking for a place to start, these easy ways to add fall to your home will help!
