TOUR MY

Yard

From the ugliest yard on the street to (I dare say) the prettiest!

For 20 years we pretty much did nothing with our yard. We did take care of a lot of boring but critical issues, like replacing the chimney, repairing the driveway, siding the house and replacing the roofs. But the yard itself languished for 20 years until 2015, when we began a transformation.

I would not be remiss to whisper that it’s now probably the prettiest yard on the street.

We live in the kind of neighborhood with lots of close neighbors, and attractions and stores are within walking distance. So people walk by our house quite a bit. When they do these days, they almost always stop and mention how nice the yard looks if I happen to be working outside.

It’s a little funny that our yard has managed to introduce us to more neighbors in the last few years than I did myself in all the years before. So I guess in addition to the obvious, there have been some unexpected benefits to having a pretty yard!

A FEW after pictures

The corner garden, the garden above the retaining wall, the front garden and a few from our front porch – always a great place to be on a hot summer night!

MAINTENANCE

All that’s left for us to do now is to feed, maintain & update the perennials, re-mulch the beds, maintain the sprinkler system, weed, and fill in the gaps with annuals. It was less work when there was nothing there! But it sure looks a lot nicer these days.

How about you?

Have you converted an outdoor space into one that you love? I’d love to hear about it. Please share in the comments below!
